Our guest performers on Sunday, February 21st, 2016: guitarist John Dirac, and pianist Elizabeth Tipton, are not new to Open Mic Classical, but this is the first time they are performing together. After his first debut in October at our Open Mic Classical, John is back by popular demand to play Vivaldi's Lute Concerto. We are so happy he joined forces with our beloved pianist Betty Tipton.

Elizabeth Hughes Tipton, a native of Wisconsin, holds graduate degrees in performance from the Juilliard School of Music with post graduate work at Columbia Teachers college in N.Y.C. After a thirty year career as performer teacher in Westfield, N.J. she moved to Cape Cod with her husband and is now on the faculty of The Cape Cod Conservatory of Music and Art in Falmouth. She has performed extensively as a soloist, in chamber music ensembles and as a collaborative pianist in New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts.Elizabeth lives in Eastham on First Encounter Beach with her husband.

John Dirac, Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music, and Masters in Studio Composition from SUNY Purchase, started playing guitar at age 10 and knew from the start he wanted to be a professional musician. He began playing folk and church music, and by the time he reached high school began studying classical as recommended by his brother’s drum teacher, incorporating jazz with classical technique. Each new style opened new doors to many types of music and sounds. He continued playing, studying, and writing jazz and classical music all through college and then began mixing it with rock and blues. He has partaken in symposiums with Paco Pena in Spain, Robert Fripp in West Virginia, and Dave Holland, John Abercrombie, and Cecil Taylor at Banff. In Europe, he pas performed at the Toulon (France) Jazz Festival with his own band and in the States with the Boston-based Either Orchestra. He also played on the USS Norway Jazz Cruise with Gary Burton. He continues to practice and study while here on the Cape and is honored to have the opportunity to play for you today.John has two CD’s of his own “Red Hawk Will Fly” ~ progressive jazz; and “M&M Blues” ~ solo guitar and voice of Country Blues as well as a duo and quartet CD: “Centerpiece” and “The Very Thought….” both with his partner Marcia Wytrwal.

So what is Open Mic Classical?

An “Open Mic” is for popular music only, right?

WRONG!

On February 21st, 2015 at 3:00 pm, we are bringing you Open Mic Classical, a new experience in classical music, to help our community's musicians share their music with a friendly, supportive and appreciative audience.

Are you a doctor with a classical horn habit, or an orchestra member who misses playing in small ensembles?

Are you an aspiring young student who doesn't ever get a chance to play with a pianist, but would like to develop your performing skills? Or a composer eager to try out your newest work?

Dust off your flugelhorn, oil your keys, and come share your talent in an intimate and casual atmosphere.

Admission is free, and classical musicians of all ages and levels are welcome.

Pianist on site is available to accompany you.

“Open Mic Classical” is brought to you by clarinetist Mónika Woods (winner of the Cape Symphony's 2013 Soloist Competition) and amateur violist and sculptor Robert Marcus representing First Parish Brewster, with Lucy Banner and Elizabeth Tipton as collaborative pianists.

It will be held at 3:00 pm on the third Sunday of every month through June at the Brewster Meeting House (1969 Main Street on Route 6A). Participants are asked to sign in at 2:45pm, rehearsal with pianist on request.
