Open Mic Classical (aka the mic-less open mic)

Cape Cod’s First and Only Classical Music Open Mic

Inspiring Communities.

September's featured guest performer will be local pianist Sylvia Karkus Furash, who will be delighting us with a short presentation about pianist composer Fanny Mendelssohn. Here is what she writes us about this project: "After six decades of teaching piano/theory, Fanny found me! Exploring her life beyond the notes has been an extraordinary journey, which will probably be ongoing. As musicians and re-creators, do we stop often enough to dream their dreams, share an imaginary conversation or approach their scores as if contemporaries?

I have found that living on Cape Cod has magically insisted that we listen to the voice within and make the connections which enhances our own art. I hope you will enjoy a few minutes with an unsung talent, Fanny Hensel".

Sylvia Karkus Furash teaches piano at Cape Conservatory and at her home studio in Yarmouth Port. To learn more about her visit: http://www.furashpianostudio.com

An “Open Mic” is for popular music only, right?

WRONG!

On September 20th, 2015 at 3:00 pm, we are bringing you Open Mic Classical, a new experience in classical music, to help our community's musicians share their music with a friendly, supportive and appreciative audience.

Are you a doctor with a classical horn habit, or an orchestra member who misses playing in small ensembles?

Are you an aspiring young student who doesn't ever get a chance to play with a pianist, but would like to develop your performing skills? Or a composer eager to try out your newest work?

Dust off your flugelhorn, oil your keys, and come share your talent in an intimate and casual atmosphere.

Admission is free, and classical musicians of all ages and levels are welcome.

Pianist on site is available to accompany you.

“Open Mic Classical” is brought to you by clarinetist Mónika Woods (winner of the Cape Symphony's 2013 Soloist Competition) and amateur violist and sculptor Robert Marcus representing First Parish Brewster, with Lucy Banner and Elizabeth Tipton as collaborative pianists.

It will be held at 3:00 pm on the third Sunday of every month through June at the Brewster Meeting House (1969 Main Street on Route 6A). Participants are asked to sign in at 2:45pm, rehearsal with pianist at 2pm.

Whether you are an amateur musician, performing artist, fan of classical music, volunteer, venue or business seeking to sponsore a cause, please contact us.

Further information is available from Monika Woods www.klarinetista.com or by phone (774)-353-0244, and Bob Marcus, (508)-945-0832.

Our sponsors: First Parish Brewster UU Church, Canary Burton at seadirdstudio.com, Eli Woods & Co, Monika Woods at klarinetista.com
