Open Mic Classical (aka the Mic-less Open Mic) - A New Experience in Classical Music - A Big Success!
The first ever Open Mic Classical on the Cape was a huge success!
Over 40 people came to the event which was held Sunday afternoon at the First Parish Brewster.
Thank you to our First 11 people who performed.
Our performers were all local to the Cape, and included Zsóka Woods (piano), Bryson Alexander (piano - original composition), Lydia Holleck (clarinet), Judy Jollett and Lucy Banner (clarinet and piano), Sara Kemp and Elizabeth Browne (flute and piano), Vicki Goldsmith (flute), Jeremy Spevack (piano), Lee Wynne & Elizabeth Browne (voice, piano), Eli Woods (piano - original composition), Bob Marcus and Lucy Banner (viola, piano).
Thank you to our collaborative pianist Lucy Banner who did a fabulous job.
Having a collaborative pianist ready to sightread, and rehears before the day of the event makes us special, and different from all other open mics.
Featured ensemble was the First Encounter Chamber Players, consisting of clarinetist Monika Woods (1st prize winner of 2013 Cape Symphony’s Soloist competition), and pianist Betty Tipton (graduate of Juilliard School of Music). They performed compositions by Bela Bartok, and E. Satie. They both donated their time and love for music.
Special thanks to local composer Canary Burton for CD donation for our ruffle ticket prize.
Donations will be used for heating, printing posters, rewarding our collaborative pianists, and our featured musicians.
Julia Enroth (Orleans) who attended Open Mic Classical, said afterwards, “This event was great! And it is a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon enjoying local musical talent!”
Open Mic Classical is held the third Sunday of the month at 3:00 pm, at the First Parish Brewster. Collaborative pianist is available on site to rehears on the day of the event starting at 2 pm.
The musical afternoon is immediately followed by light refreshments and conversation. There is no admission fee, but donations are welcome.

Meet 2 of our youngest performers:
Lydia H. , 5th grader, started clarinet at Eddy Elementary, she is now taking private lessons with clarinetist Monika Woods. She enjoys playing in ensembles, and she is a real fighter. She played at our event despite her recent finger fracture.
Zsóka W. proud Kindergartner is picking up music from her parents as she has no choice, but to listen to them playing all the time. Her real passion is dancing, and directing (mostly her parents at this stage of her life).
